Realistic eye tutorial by Blattaphile Realistic eye tutorial by Blattaphile
First, sorry for any misspellings. Second, I have MOVED my non-anthro art to a new account: :iconpenanggalan:. Still using this one for my anthro art.

Not many people enjoy doing real-looking non-animeish eyes these days, I think that's sad... figured I would make this, especially since most eye tutorials are animeish anyways. This is my attempt at a realistic eye. There are many different colors and shapes of course, and ways to give an eye expression. This is just the basics though. First tutorial I ever made, I hesitated to make it cos I really don't have much knowledge about Photoshop. You'll find this to be very simple, of course you don't have to use my technique, actually you can probably do much better! I only use the set PS brushes and I never use layers, but you can change it and do it however you like. Hopefully this will inspire you anyways!! :)

Wow, I can't believe how popular this is :o By far the most viewed/faved thing in my whole gallery! XD I'm glad people are getting such use out of it, and please, don't forget to link me to your art done using this technique! You don't have to but I'd LOVE to see it! :)

absolutely incredible. I dont know when, but i will definitely be giving this a go. I agree that there are many many animeish eye tutorials out there. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it refreshing to see something different and something that has such a level of detail to it. This was very informative. Thank you.

I like doing realistic art :D it's fun but i don't do it as often as anime art. I think more anime artists should try to delve into realistic art too it's better to be well rounded expecially if you go into art as a career.

It's way too saturated to be realistic, but it's stunning nonetheless.

It helps so much!
You should do a tutorial on how to do a realistic eye in a side profile.
That'd be awesome xD.

Though your drawing style and drawings just in general don't exactly suit my style, I'd have to say that this is one great tutorial. That eye looks so beautiful... Among all those eye tutorials that I have seen so far this one stands out the most in my memories. I could keep faving it all over and over again... It's such a lovely eye...

zomg!
them eyes are gorgeous.

would this work if a sketch was scanned into photoshop and follow the other techniques in the tutorial? ( i absolutly hate doing outlines on photoshop :( )

and yeah. im getting sick of anime/manga on here. its not even a great art form if you look deeper into it. :( *anime disliker here lol*

I'm stuck at step 4.2
You didn't explain technique. What kind of brush do I use? Fuzzy or hard? And will it matter after it's blured? I might not have the skill for that step yet. My 4.1 looks very nice but once I try to put in radial lines they aren't straight and looks like a kid drew on it. What can I do about this?

i alwats ahev trouble with the eyelashes, especially the ones at the front
they do this curve, which makes them look smaller, and then i have then rlly thick & none in otehr directions..
and the light spots!
it looks amazing there!

Wow! great job! I haven't done realistic in years... I stopped having people to draw, so I went to anime... since for me it is hard to do realistic without looking at something =T.T= anyways amazing and it will really help out! *4 thumbs up and a fav*
